The 2022 GMC Canyon – old school is still cool in 2022

The first thing that differentiates the 2022 GMC Canyon from its competitors is its exterior look and feel. While the whole truck car class seems to be heading for a crossover-like aesthetic with rounded lines and a welcoming design, the 2022 GMC Canyon still keeps its edge.

Instead of flowing curves, the 2022 Canyon sports a somewhat boxy, very assertive, and no-nonsense look. It pays homage to the pickups of yesterday while still looking every bit as modern and fresh as any mid-sized truck today.

The rugged exterior look isn’t mirrored in the interior where modern tech and comforts take center stage. With the Elevation Standard, Canyon’s base model, future owners will get perks such as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a 4-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a 7.0-inch color touchscreen, satellite radio, and probably the most intuitive and responsive infotainment system on the market today. The base model also comes with cloth upholstery, an extended cab and long bed.

The real pampering, though, is to be had on the model’s top trim, the Canyon Denali. Order it and you’ll be pampered by high-end leather upholstery, open-pore wooden trim, and chrome accents.

But no truck is worth much without some solid engine choices. And the 2022 GMC Canyon has plenty.

First is the standard 2.5-liter inline-4 gas engine that can produce 200 horsepower and 191 pound-feet of torque. Designed more for fleet purchases, it can tow up to 3,500 pounds which will probably mean that most retail buyers will opt for either the V6 or the available turbodiesel.

Speaking of which, the V3 engine is a 3.6-liter that can belt out 308 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque, enough power to make the Canyon capable of towing up to 7,000 pounds.

The turbodiesel does one better, as it can tow a maximum of 7,700 pounds. All the while, the 2.8-liter turbodiesel inline-4 engine that can belt out 186 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, is rated at 30 miles per gallon on the highway by the EPA.

If you’re in the market for a mid-sized truck that has some of that old-school charm on the outside and lots of modern amenities on the inside, then the 2022 GMC Canyon should be high on your shortlist.
